We are carefully building our breeding programme around excellent, thoughtfully selected bloodlines, chosen for health, temperament, type and the qualities we value in the retrievers.
Every future pairing will be carefully considered, with the aim of producing the healthiest, well-rounded retrievers while preserving the very best qualities of the breed.

HEALTH & TESTING
Responsible breeding begins long before a litter is planned. Every dog considered for breeding at Westhouse
will undergo the full range of health tests recommended for the Retriever breed.
Scored under the
BVA/KC Elbow Dysplasia Scheme.
EYES

GENERAL HEALTH
Assessed under the
BVA/KC Hip Dysplasia
Scheme.
ELBOWS
Annual eye examinations
with results recorded on the KC Eye Scheme.
Testing for relevant
inherited conditions

GR_PRA, MD, NCL,
DM AND ICT-A
Heart auscultation
by a veterinary
practitioner.
Full veterinary health
check to ensure overall
wellbeing.
Only dogs that meet our strict health and temperament criteria will be considered for our breeding programme.
Results will be shared openly and published on each dog's individual profile when testing is complete.
Every proposed pairing will be carefully assessed, with the aim of keeping the COI
as low as reasonably possible and, wherever possible, well below the breed average of 10%.
