At Westhouse Retrievers, puppy socialisation is part of everyday life.

We want our puppies to grow up feeling comfortable with the normal sights and sounds they are likely to experience in a family home.

As they develop, we gradually introduce things such as:

  • Hoovers

  • Washing machines

  • Television and radio

  • Kitchen noises

  • Cars and vehicles

  • Outdoor machinery

  • Different floor surfaces

  • Grass and outdoor areas

  • Gentle grooming

  • Toys and simple enrichment

Everything is introduced calmly and gradually.

The aim is not to overwhelm the puppies, but to help them build confidence and become familiar with normal family life before they leave for their new homes.

For us, good socialisation is simply about giving each puppy a positive start.
